WHAT IS CONNECT & REGENERATE?

Connect & Regenerate is a fusion of arts practice environmental sustainability created and driven by undergraduates of QUT’s School of Creative Practice. The art installations are site-specific works built for and inspired by Barrambin/Victoria Park and its rich history of both colonial and Indigenous land use. The recent history of the site as a golf course reflects an idea of place informed by settler aesthetics and pastimes. However, taking a longer view, the site is, and always has been an important cultural place for First Nations people - for meeting, politics, ceremonies, customs, and negotiation.

In keeping with these complex histories, and the ethos of the Green Heart Fair, the artworks of Connect & Regenerate, are each designed to engage sensitively with the long histories of their sites, whilst also embodying cultural, ethical, and material principles of sustainability. Using different materials and approaches the artworks complement and interweave with each other to create a meditative and sensually engaging experience for all members of the community. The program will include four interactive artworks that incorporate a combination of performances and instrumental engagement. The strategic placement of the artworks encourages public engagement with the Green Art Fair as they travel around the site to participate in Connect & Regenerate.

Special thanks are due to academic support and coordination with the Brisbane City Council.
