AQUEOUS CANOPY

Artwork by Ashleigh Reardon & Cheranne Heyworth

Originally Constructed by Ashleigh Reardon & Cheranne Heyworth

Aqueous Canopy is a site-specific hanging installation designed to highlight the connections between art and the unique environment and wildlife in the Barrambin area. The installation work is composed of three hanging chandelier styled structures that are designed to reference the trees that populate the grassland and water that resides within the park. Aqueous Canopy is a four-part sculpture, installed in a tree alongside the entrance at Gilcrest Avenue, and is designed to resemble the pattern of leaves and branches, reflecting the concept of regeneration and rejuvenation of nature. This work explores the concept of regrowth by representing the growth of new branches and providing a decorative and useful element of the work, holding water in it for the wildlife to interact with and benefit from.

Each structure is hung from a different branch of the canopy of the tree and the height of the installation invites the audience to view the work from underneath, looking up to take notice of the water held in the work and any wildlife that intermingles with it. This work is designed to gain and direct the attention of those viewing the work and invite them to take notice of the natural world around them, with each element of the installation designed to represent or draw attention to the beauty of the Barrambin environment surrounding it.
